I noticed that Photobucket was still a thing, so for shits & giggles I tried logging in. That's where my final (early 2010s?) animations were uploaded to, but the direct links went dead years ago. To my surprise, I was able to log in!
...where I was met with the following screen.
I'd love to see the market research that suggests they can milk a $5-$8/month subscription service out of people, when several other sites offer the same service for free. I have a bot that makes use of Imgur, Imgbb, & Cloudinary's API for automated uploads, and have never been limited in any way.
I'm fortunate that I've got anything leftover from my animating days, and that's solely thanks to Overshadow for sharing his archive with us (mirror) (my animations). But it's still annoying to get a tease like this from Photobucket. So I figured the most appropriate thing to do would be to post an angry rant in a forum like it's still 2002.
Just now I thought to my luck with Imageshack while I'm at it. Surprisingly, I was able to log in here too - and what's this, 94 images? They're all blank, but interestingly the file names are still there. Judging by those it seems these are all related to my PS2 Smackdown CAWs, and perhaps WWE Raw 2 for Xbox mods (the latter is another 2000s-era hobby I've nothing left to show for, but I saved a few of my CAWs at least).
Imageshack is begging for subscription money as well. But you'd think if my photos still existed I'd at least be able to see them after logging in, I just wouldn't be able to link them anywhere unless I pay up. I'll have to contact them to see what's going on.
Shame I didn't just upload everything to Angelfire - they seem to still be going strong!

Oh no! Your account has been deactivated.
Photobucket no longer supports free accounts.
If you would like to keep your account and any photos or videos you may have uploaded, reactivate your account today before it's too late.
